Summary

The Author brings out three interpretations of the relationship between neuroscience, philosophy and Theology. Then he presents the character of neuroscience in contrast with biology and psychology. Critical consideration is then given to different currents of neuroscience on the central theme of the relationship brain-mind, soul-body and the reductionism of body alone. He opts for the Thomistic view which holds that the spiritual soul is essentially linked to the body, making it the identity of the human person. Finally, he analyses the relationship between neuroscience, philosophy and Christian Faith, concluding his dense discourse with four key meeting points between anthropology and neuroscience.

L’Autore evoca anzitutto tre interpretazioni del rapporto tra neuroscienza, filosofia e teologia. Successivamente presenta il carattere delle neuroscienze ponendole a confronto con biologia e psicologia. Giunge a considerare in modo critico le diverse correnti delle neuroscienze sul tema centrale del rapporto cervello-mente, anima-corpo e il riduzionismo del solo corpo. Egli opta per la visione tomista, che ritiene l’anima spirituale essenzialmente legata al corpo costituendolo nella sua identità di persona umana. Infine analizza le relazioni tra neuroscienze, filosofia e fede cristiana e conclude il suo denso discorso in quattro punti di incontro tra antropologia e neuroscienze.
